Sustainable House Day 2019

Sunday September 15th is shaping up to be a cracker Sustainable House Day in the Macedon Ranges.

Eight homes will be open in and close to the Macedon Ranges, with owners enthusiastic about sharing their experience at making their homes more comfortable, more energy efficient and cheaper to run.

There are two mudbrick houses, a strawbale house and a couple constructed from more familiar materials. There are custom builds and homes that are evolving over time, places “in town” and places on acreage, people who’ve been working on their homes for over 30 years and people who are relative rookies. What they all have is people who are passionate about making their homes work better and sharing their experiences to helping others start or continue their own improvements.

Inaugural Mount Alexander Sustainability Group Fashion Parade

MASG is running a Fashion Parade fundraiser on September 15th.

We are asking people to create wearable pieces out of re-purposed, pre-loved or op-shopped items. There are many prizes, food and drink and a huge rummage sale. We are hoping to create a fun afternoon that highlights the importance of NOT participating in fast fashion, which has become a major polluter and creator of emissions.

People can either create a piece to show on the catwalk or come as an audience member and simply have a good time. Tickets are available from the MASG website masg.org.au

Showcase at the Market: Renewable Energy Action Group

The Macedon Ranges Renewable Energy Action Group aims to to accelerate the transition of the Macedon Ranges to renewable energy. To do this, they work across three areas. The largest project involves putting the pieces together for the community energy park in the pine plantation south of Woodend. The second area of work is exploring a number of solar-based renewable energy projects with community organisations, the council, and even Holgate’s brewery. Finally, there are a number of members who are well connected across similar organisations and are drawing resources from those networks to assist our project planning.
