The TAG Team were out an about in Woodend at the beginning of this year trying to determine what infrastructure improvement option was the most popular. Turns out ALL options were popular! We already knew that as the Woodend Structure Plan lists active transport as a major community priority way back in 2014. Imagine how popular now with 6 months of Covid under our belts. So many more people have been out walking and cycling and that was over winter! The whole world is seeing a reset. So without further ado, here are the Survey Results.
Imagine if we had the opportunity to follow the songlines of the traditional owners over this land. How much more we would deeply know and care. We would read the changing landscape, absorb the sensory experiences and observe the flora and fauna in their natural habitat. Walking is the most wonderful tactile connection to place of course but an antidote to a totally sensory devoid experience while achieving significant distance, is by cycling. Cycling gives us the opportunity to reconnect to this land.
Increasing Active Transport in the Macedon Ranges
We will be asking the Community to list their priorities so we can pursue funding in the next budget.
Up to 31st of October VicRoads is seeking input into the strategy via this survey.
As focused as VicRoads is on cars, it is important to highlight that pedestrians and cyclists share the roads as well. They need better infrastructure to encourage “Active Transport” (walking and cycling).
Transport Action Group (a recently formed sub-group within the Macedon Ranges Sustainability Group - MRSG) advocates for sustainable transport solutions for the whole community. We are guided by the latest industry, scientific and governmental reports on sustainability, health and safety.
