Sustainable Development

State and local government planning policies are the foundations of all land development in Victoria. Where these policies fail to support sustainable development the entire planning system and our environment is compromised.

Inappropriate and unsustainable development becomes difficult to prevent and nearly impossible to reverse once it has been developed. Residents and councils are forever left battling to protect their environment and effect sustainable development initiatives.

The Macedon Ranges Sustainable Development Action Group aims to reform planning processes to institute sustainable development at a policy level and at the planning application stage. To this end the group will lobby government bodies, educate, and support focus groups efforts to turn the tide of inappropriate development in the region.

Description of OUR activities:

  • Educate and empower local focus groups to engage with state and local government planning processes to entrench sustainable development practices at a foundational level.

  • Support sustainable development projects affecting Macedon Ranges Shire residents.

  • Develop templates and instruction sheets to assist residents with navigating planning processes and lodging objections to inappropriate permit applications.

  • Fund-raise to support sustainable development campaigns, including receiving donations and selling merchandise.

  • Endorse sustainable development projects.

  • Petition and protest against unsustainable developments.

  • Communicate through media activism including social media posts and appearances on radio and TV programs.
