MRSG Healthy Homes Incubator Project
MRSG is on the verge of signing an agreement to take over the running of a project that offers a range of sustainable home improvements to lower income households at no cost to the occupant. This is expected to lead to better health outcomes for occupants as well as delivering an immediate financial benefit to the occupants through lower energy costs. This project fits well the with MRSG charter since the project will also help to reduce the carbon footprint of some of the least energy efficient homes in our region.
The project was initiated by the Christian Business Men Australia organisation (CBMA), with the aim of achieving World Health Organisation recommendations for indoor thermal comfort with affordable running costs for low income households. A number of the CBMA project initiators have joined MRSG and will be part of the project team.
The project will be run by MRSG, as an ‘incubator’ project, for a period of approximately two years with a view to determining the viability of the project continuing on a longer term basis. MRSG member, James Mackenzie has been appointed as the project leader, and the project is now looking for additional volunteers as the project ramps up to identify 3 – 5 target homes prior to the onset of winter. The project has an immediate need for a Media Coordinator (to handle letters to welfare agencies seeking referrals, grant applications and press releases), and a Deputy Project Leader to help support James in the general running of the project. In the coming months, the project will also be seeking volunteers to undertake energy efficiency audits and to implement the recommendations of the audits. (optional? Licenced trades will be used for the more significant works but minor works, such as fitting of door / window seals, could be undertaken by competent volunteers.)
If you are interested in any of the above roles, or require further information regarding the project please contact James at james.mackenzie@mrsg.org.au
