Cosmetics Recycling Closing

The Waste Action Group is sad to announce that the Cosmetics, Skincare and Haircare recycling stream will be CLOSING from 14th July.

This means that you still have one last chance to drop off these items at the Woodend Farmers’ Market on 6th July.

We are sorry about the short notice of this closure, it was only announced by Terracycle on 25 June.

Here is what Terracycle had to say about the closure of this program:

Over the past three years, L’Oréal Australia has funded this program which has allowed us to offer an all-brands solution to collectors for free. In addition to the Beauty Products Recycling Program, the L’Oréal Group has been focusing on packaging optimisation since 2014, with its Sustainable Product Optimisation Tool (SPOT) now integrated across all brands. With this tool, L’Oréal is focusing on improving the overall sustainability of products at the design and launch stages.

In the meantime, while the changes to packaging take place, we recommend referring to the program sorting guide for what is accepted in kerbside recycling.

We thank you for your understanding

All of Terracycle’s recycling programs are reliant on sponsorship by corporations, or through a buy-in scheme. At present, the buy-in scheme for cosmetic collection is beyond the budget of the Waste Action Group. If this changes, you will hear about it!

See you at the market!
