Woodend Neighbourhood House Winter Energy Improvement Project

  • Woodend Neighbourhood House 47 Forest Street Woodend 3442 (map)

Once upon a time, in a world pre-Covid, MRSG was awarded a grant under the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities programme, to help improve the energy performance of the Woodend Neighbourhood House in Winter.

Now the time is coming for the Neighbourhood House to start thinking about opening its doors again, in a limited way. The Sustainable Homes Action Group, with support from the Renewable Energy Action Group, is planning a morning of retrofitting at the House to make a start and make some plans for future activities in the project. We’ll be working on draughtproofing windows and doors and applying secondary glazing (a layer of Perspex inside the window glass as a DIY alternative to double glazing).

Would you like to join in, and practise some skills you can apply at home? No special skills required: we can teach you. Let us know if you’d like to come by email to susthomes@mrsg.org.au, by about 19th June, so we can organise teams mindful of social distancing requirements.

PS For the “wannabe Draughtbusters” out there, here’s a link to a terrific draughtproofing checklist from GreenMoves Australia. Use it to check out your place before the retrofitting day and we’ll be happy to help you with advice about how to tackle the leaks you find.
