Woodend Community Farmers Market named finalist in Macedon Ranges Business Excellence Awards
The Woodend Community Farmers Market is celebrating after being named a finalist in the 2026 Macedon Ranges Business Excellence Awards, with the community now encouraged to vote for the market in the People’s Choice Award.
The recognition celebrates the market’s contribution to the Macedon Ranges through local food, sustainable practices, community connection and support for regional growers, producers and businesses.
Established in 2011 by the Macedon Ranges Sustainability Group, the Woodend Community Farmers Market has grown into a popular regional destination, welcoming thousands of visitors on the first Saturday of every month.
With more than 100 carefully curated stalls showcasing seasonal produce, artisan foods and handcrafted products, the market offers visitors the opportunity to meet the people behind their purchases, enjoy local food and discover the best of the Macedon Ranges.
But the market is about much more than great food and shopping. Sustainability and community participation are at the heart of its operations.
The market operates as a zero-waste event, with stallholders prohibited from using disposable single-use packaging. Through its partnership with the Wash Against Waste trailer, developed by the Macedon Ranges Sustainability Group and Macedon Ranges Shire Council, reusable cups, plates, bowls and cutlery help reduce waste generated on market day.
Recent data recorded a saving of 6,600 coffee cups from landfill over a 12-month period.
The market also champions local and regional producers, encourages seasonal eating and helps visitors understand where their food comes from. By connecting consumers directly with growers and makers, it supports local supply chains, strengthens the regional economy and promotes more sustainable food choices.
Around 20 volunteers contribute to every market, helping create the friendly, welcoming atmosphere that keeps visitors coming back. The market also generates benefits for the wider visitor economy, encouraging people to explore Woodend’s cafés, shops, galleries and attractions, and supporting local hospitality and accommodation businesses.
Now, the market is asking its community to get behind it in the People’s Choice Award.
Woodend Community Farmers Market is encouraging everyone who loves the market to cast their vote and help celebrate the people, produce and community spirit that make it special.
Whether you visit every month, travel from further afield to fill your basket with local produce, enjoy breakfast with friends or simply love the atmosphere, your vote is a wonderful way to show your support.
