Changes to Terracycle Collection Hubs

The Waste Action Group has some announcements about the Terracycle Community Collection Hubs.

Firstly, we have good news!

Our Terracycle Community Collection Hubs are returning soon and we are adding a NEW waste stream: Disposable razors and packaging.

Lots of people have been asking where they can recycle their razors and now Terracycle has a recycling solution.

Accepted waste: All brands of blades and razors (refillable and disposable products, and replaceable-blade cartridge units), Rigid plastic packaging, Flexible plastic packaging

Please make sure that all waste is CLEAN before you recycle it.

Now for the bad news:

We are no longer collecting any brand of coffee pod.

We have tried hard to keep up with the enormous volume of coffee pods coming through the Hubs, but when the Library re-opened mid-year, we were simply overwhelmed by the vast quantity of pods being dropped off. As a volunteer-run community group, we are not equipped or prepared to take on the enormous task of waste collection on anything other than a small scale.

We are sorry to leave you with piles of pods.

Here are a few ways you can choose to recycle your pods, depending on the brand:

·      Nespresso

You can purchase recycling envelopes or join their community collection scheme to receive a recycling box.

·      L’Or, Mocona or Illy

You can join Terracycle for free and collect and return pods

·      Vittoria

Empty the grinds and compost (or FOGO) then recycle the plastic (#5) in the yellow bin.

Our group Mantra is to follow the R’s, starting by Refusing then Reducing waste. It is our mission to create a cleaner, less wasteful world. We would always rather encourage people to try changing their waste habits and not pass the waste problem on to someone else.

Our Terracycle Community Collection Hubs are an initiative aimed at helping people understand their waste better. We believe that the more you can sort your waste, the easier it is to identify problem items and take action to prevent or reduce.

The Hubs rely on the good will and support of the wonderful staff at Woodend Library and Woodend Neighbourhood House, and we want to return the favour by keeping the units clean, tidy and well-managed.

Thanks for your support and understanding.

If you would like to join the Waste Action Group and help us find more ways to Refuse, Reduce, Repurpose, Reuse, Repair, Recycle and Compost (Rot) we would love to hear from you!
