SHD Wrap, what's next, and a special offer for MRSG members
What a day we had!
The numbers are in and totalled, and we can report that our five member homes totalled 476 visits for Sustainable House Day 2019. A fantastic effort from a range of people – the householders and volunteers who spent the day talking to visitors, the crew who put up tents and flags early on Sunday morning and turned up again to take them down after closing time, our hard-working volunteer coordinator, all those who put up posters or wrote to the papers to gain publicity, the team at Council for the bus tour, MRVEG and the gardeners who hosted the bus tour lunch, and everyone who supported those directly involved – thank you all!
What’s next? A few dates and ideas for the diary:
There’s an Earth Building Conference coming up in Nowra in a couple of days’ time (September 27-29). Perhaps a useful source of information for those dreaming of rammed earth or mudbrick construction.
A few of our members are working on a community service project and will be looking for some help with draughtproofing to complete two pilot “house warming” projects. They are hoping the two completed projects attract financial sponsorship so they can undertake more in winter 2020. If you can spare a couple of hours to help, let us know. mrsg.susthomes@gmail.com
Council is running a workshop on Building with Natural Materials on 10 October. See the events page of our website for more information
The MRSG AGM on October 12. A great opportunity to hear about and celebrate the work MRSG has done in the last year, and to meet other members.
Bendigo Sustainable House Day is coming up on Sunday October 27. A different format from the national day – you can find more information here.
One more thing …
We had the good fortune of meeting Ryan from Evergen on Sustainable House Day. Evergen installed the solar setup (and associated software controls) on the carport at Lot 6. Evergen has made a special offer to MRSG members:
Sign up for a solar installation with Evergen by 15th November 2019 and you will be eligible to have Evergen pay 12 months of your remaining electricity bills, up to a maximum of $1000.
Specific information regarding Evergen and the offer can be found here
