GET OFF GAS! Help is at hand :-)
We’ve been hearing a lot lately about getting off gas. It’s expensive, it’s an indoor pollutant and as electricity from the grid gets cleaner (in terms of its carbon emissions, thanks to reduced production from coal and increased production from renewables like solar) gas isn’t the dream fuel it used to be.
Read more about the benefits of living in a gas-free home and calculate the potential savings of getting your home off gas with information and tools from the Climate Council. The Climate Council has also produced a report explaining how getting off gas and making your home more energy efficient can cut your energy bills and reduce climate harm. Read the report here (Tip: when exploring the savings from thermal efficiency upgrades, use Hobart, not Melbourne, for comparison with the Macedon Ranges because our climates are similar. For appliance energy savings use Melbourne as your reference because our tariffs are similar)
Renew has information presented in a ‘Q&A’ format here
The folks at Renew have been developing a Getting Off Gas Toolkit providing clear, accessible and practical advice to households on replacing gas with renewables. The Toolkit will also be accompanied by a series of free online events coming up later this month and next.
The events will cover all stages of a household electrification journey, from where to start, how to pick out the right all-electric appliances, finding the right tradespeople for the job, and how going all-electric fits in with existing renewables and batteries.
The events are called:
Getting off Gas: Planning your electrification journey (26 July 6.30-8pm)
Getting off Gas: Choosing your appliances (2 August 6.30-8pm)
Getting off Gas: All-electric homes and solar, electric vehicles and batteries (9 August 6.30-8pm)
Getting off Gas: Trades, wiring, plumbing, troubleshooting (16 August 6.30-8pm)
More information on each event is available via the links above. You can book individual events from their information pages or get a series pass here.
