Update from Woodend Community Farmer's Market and Friends of the market celebration
The Farmers Market Action Group felt it was time for a celebration and an update about the market.
Some say the Woodend Farmers Market has taken over as the premier market in the Macedon Ranges. That is for the most due to the great volunteers that again and again show up.
All past, present and future volunteers at the Woodend Community Farmers Market "Friends of the market" celebration is on this Saturday after the Woodend Community Farmer's Market. We hope to see you and your family there!!??
Thank you for being a part of the MRSG and Farmer's Market family. Your continued support of a local economy and a healthy community is very much appreciated. There are many benefits of having the market, such as high-quality food with low food miles. The community can build connections with the source of our food and the people who made it and each other.
Don't forget MRSG activity, benefit local businesses, stallholders and our market manager, including their families by providing them with income. We are also a significant drawcard for tourists who spend in our local stores while here.
Celebration. There is a lot we can be proud of in MRSG and the Farmers Market Action Group, and it is time to celebrate. Please join the Farmer's Market Action Group at "Friends of the Farmer's Market" BBQ lunch.
Where: Behind Woodend Neighbourhood House (Indoor option if the weather turns bad)
When: Saturday 7th March 2020 from 2 pm onwards (After the market pack-up)
What: There will be at least one BBQ and a firepit. MRSG has donated two boxes of wine.
FMAG volunteers will set up tents, tables and chairs. BYO everything else. So far, seven volunteers will start at midday to "transform" the Neighbourhood House garden into a BBQ area. At 1 pm, pack-up will begin at the market site. Then at approximately 2 pm, we will start the BBQ and the firepit. In other news. Katherine Bishop, our much-loved Market Manager, has signed up for a two-year extension for the Woodend Market. We have all benefited from the new approach and new view on things brought by Katherine's professionalism yet relaxed way of managing the market. From the FMAG, the stallholders and the greater community; Welcome onboard Katherine, can you believe it has been one year, 16 markets and lots of laughs since you started?
Great news. The Macedon Market will continue to operate post the one-year trial period. The market will continue to be held at MPS every 5th Saturday of the month.
MRSG and the FMAG are proud to have played a key role in starting this great local event. MRSG has provided guidance, know-how and material support to the Macedon Primary School. Now it is time for MPS to run this premier event by themselves. MRSG will always have a free marquee at each event. Katherine Bishop, whom we know as a competent market manager, will continue working for MPS. If you or your action group wish to use the free marquee, do contact Katherine Bishop on 0458 769 258.
One last thing. I am taking six months of leave from MRSG as my family, and I are driving around SA, NT and WA between late March and late September this year. Michael Berechree, a long time FMAG member will take over while I am away. Say hello to Michael at the friends of the market celebration and please help him by continuing to sign up as a volunteer.
Ohhh and just one more thing. The Lancefield Farmers Market sign is missing. The sign is located on High Street at the intersection near Ashbourne Road. The Woodend sign is currently in the frame. Every week leading up to the 3rd Saturday the frame for the sign will be empty if we do not find it. Please keep an eye out for it and if found return to the FMAG.
See you at the March market and the friends of the market BBQ,
