This 2 hour workshop will cover part 1 of 3 of our intensive Beginner Beekeeping Short Course for Woodend Bee Friendly Society Members.

Learn the basics of beekeeping from the Woodend Bee Friendly Society leadership team where we’ll cover the basics in getting started with bees, how to get bees, equipment that you’ll need (and what you don’t), the life cycle of your colony, pests and diseases and the Biosecurity Code of Practice.

Over 3 consecutive meetings, you’ll learn enough to get you started this Spring including:

  • All about bees – Apis Mellifera, the colony and swarming

  • Bees throughout the seasons including winter pack down and spring ramp up

  • Basics of beekeeping

  • Beekeeping equipment

  • Bee biosecurity

  • Honey extraction, wax, propolis
