The Cheaper Home Battery Program will officially begin on July 1st

We now have written confirmation from the government and a draft policy paper to support it. Everything is progressing quickly, and we now have real, reliable details we can work with.

There's a lot of confusion around what the program means and what you'll get. So we wanted to clarify 6 important points, which are misleading from the information out there.

  1. The rebate is not a flat 30% discount – that figure is just an example to illustrate scale. Instead, it is calculated based on 9.3 STCs per usable kWh of battery storage.

  2. You may have seen $370/kWh mentioned – this is the government’s cost, not what you’ll receive (more details on this in the article linked below).

  3. The number of STCs you will reduce at the end of the calendar year. So if you wait, it will cost you more.

  4. You can only claim once per property – if you start small now, you won’t be able to claim again if you expand later (costing you thousands, so get it right the first time).

  5. While the battery must be VPP capable, you are NOT required to join a VPP.

  6. The Victorian Government has now withdrawn the $8,800 home battery interest free loan

This is the most support we’ve ever seen, and will likely ever see again.
