Transport Action Group Community Workshop
As part of the Shire’s ChangeMakers event, MRSG’s Transport Action Group (TAG) held a community transport workshop on Saturday 28 March.
The workshop, skilfully facilitated by Knowles Tivendale of Movement & Place Consulting, invited participants to nominate their concerns about transport in Macedon Ranges. A long list of issues was produced and grouped into topics. The group then split up and discussed each topic in more detail in six sessions, covering:
1. Infrastructure and accessibility
2. Public transport
3. Active transport
4. Inter-town connections
5. Streets and townscapes
6. Influence – how to organise and campaign for change
The sessions produced a many concerns such as the need for better public transport, more cycling and walking trails, improved road safety, amenity in Shire townships, and stronger incentives for transitioning to electric vehicles.

We’ll use the issues to guide our future activities, all to help the push for more sustainable transport and living in the Macedon Ranges.
Our report from the workshop is available here.
The day after our workshop, the State Government announced that public transport would be free for everyone throughout August. At the Mayor’s suggestion, we prepared a statement on this issue, to guide future advocacy. Much of it applies to improving public transport in general, an issue that I’m sure we’ll return to often in the future!
