The Winter Veg Recipe Challenge is a celebration of local, seasonal plant-based food.

ENTRY BASICS

All submitted recipes need to :

  • feature at least one winter vegetable

  • be vegetarian or plant based/vegan

  • be insanely delicious

  • be YOUR recipe. You can use other recipes for inspiration, but you need to change an ingredient and/or the instructions to make it yours. DON’T over think this - just one change is enough to make it original.

  • Winners will be announced at the WINTER VEG AND WINE NIGHT on October 1st

PRIZES

There are two prizes up for grabs:

1) Best Vegetarian Winter Dish 2021

2) Best plant-based/Vegan dish 2021

ELIGIBLE WINTER VEGETABLES

PICK ONE OR MORE VEGETABLES FROM THE LIST BELOW TO FEATURE IN YOUR DISH. (OTHER VEGETABLES ARE PERMITTED BUT ONE OR MORE WINTER VEGETABLES MUST BE THE FEATURE OF THE DISH).

Asian greens, Beetroot, Broccoli, Brussel sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Carrots, Celery, Celeriac, Rocket, Shallots, Silverbeet, Spinach, Spring onions, Swedes, Turnips, Daikon, Fennel, Kale, Kohlrabi, Leek, Lettuce, Parsnip, Potato, Pumpkin 

SHORTLISTING CRITERIA

All recipes must be vegetarian or 100% plant based (no meat products). We are celebrating local, seasonal veggies and we’re looking for fabulous and exciting winter main dishes. We’ll ask guests at our Winter Veg and Wine Night to select the winning recipes using the following criteria:

 Taste: 70%

Does this recipe taste great with every bite? Does it have mass appeal? Would you want to make this recipe over and over again based on taste alone? Does it contain interesting, yet gratifying flavour combinations?

Creativity: 20%

Is the recipe your original idea? Is the recipe reflective of unique twists to ingredient usage? Have you incorporated your personal touch to this recipe? 

Visual appeal: 10%

Does the look of the dish make you want to eat it?

TERMS AND CONDITIONS (THE BORING STUFF)

Eligibility: This challenge is open to people who live, work or regularly visit the Macedon Ranges. This challenge is run by Veg Action, a group of the Macedon Ranges Sustainability Group (MRSG). Committee members of Veg Action are not eligible to participate in the competition. 

How to Enter: The challenge begins at 12:01 am Eastern Time on 4th August, 2021 and ends at 11:59 pm Eastern Time on 17th September August, 2021 (the “Deadline Date”). All entries must be received by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on the Deadline Date. All entries must include your full name, address, telephone number and email address (if you have one). Please be certain to follow all directions.  Eligible persons can enter as many original recipes in this challenge as they wish. Veg Action is the official timekeeper for this challenge.  

All recipes must be the original work of entrant and not previously published. You may use other recipes for inspiration, but you must make your own unique ingredient and cooking instruction changes in order for the recipe to be considered. Each submitted recipe must not infringe the copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity or other intellectual property rights of any person or entity. 

All entries become the physical property of Veg Action.  By submitting a recipe for this challenge, you grant Veg Action and MRSG unrestricted use of the submitted entry which includes the right to publish your recipe and any other information provided worldwide in all print and electronic media (now or hereafter existing) without time limitation, and the right to include your name and hometown (e.g., town) in connection therewith. Veg Action reserves the right to edit, modify, translate, reproduce and distribute the submitted material in any medium and in any manner as it deems appropriate. Veg Action will test selected recipes and reserves the right to alter them as it deems appropriate. Veg Action may contact you via phone or email you regarding your submission.

Paid guests of the Wine Veg and Wine Night will select the best recipes of 2021 using a score card sheet provided by Veg Action. Photos of the dishes can be shared on Instagram or Facebook using the hashtag #rangesrecipechallenge

Criteria for shortlisting: All recipes must be vegetarian or plant based and not include any meat. Veg Action will shortlist the recipes using the criteria, to a list of not more than 7 vegetarian and 7 plant based /vegan dishes.

Selection of winners:

The guests of the Winter Veg Wine and Cheese Night on October 1st, 2021 will select the winners in two categories - Vegetarian and Plantbased/Vegan. In the event of a tie, the highest scoring entry in the Creativity category will be the winner.  Veg Action’s committee will count votes and make a decision which is final and binding on all matters relating to this challenge.

Entrant involvement in preparing dishes

Entrants that are shortlisted will have the opportunity to prepare their dish for guests of the winter Veg and Wine Night 2021 with the help of the Veg Action Team. We will have a commercial kitchen available for the preparation of the dish. Veg Action will supplies the vegetables and we ask for the entrant to supply the necessary spices for the dish and any unusual ingredients.

Winners and Prizes:

A total of two winners will be selected:

1) Best Vegetarian Winter Dish 2021

2)Best plant-based/Vegan dish 2021
The winners will be awarded $150 worth of Foodie items (TBA)

Each winner agrees that the publishing rights granted above will be exclusive to Veg Action and MRSG for use in any media (now or hereafter existing) for a period of one year after the date a prize is awarded; following such period, such publishing rights shall continue on a non-exclusive basis. Each prize is not transferable and cannot be substituted or assigned by the winner. Veg Action will not be responsible for any loss, liability or damage arising out of the winners’ acceptance or use of the prize(s). All prizes are guaranteed to be awarded, assuming a sufficient number of qualifying entries is received and meet the minimum judging criteria.

Selection of Winners: Winners will be determined and notified on or about October 1st, 2021 at the WINTER VEG AND WINE NIGHT, or by email or phone.  Entry and/or acceptance of prize(s) constitutes permission for the Veg Action and MRSG to use the winner’s name and hometown (e.g., city and state) for advertising and trade purposes without further compensation or authorization, worldwide and in perpetuity, in any and all forms of media, now known and hereafter devised, unless prohibited by law.

Conditions: By entering, participants agree to be bound by these complete Official Rules. Veg Action is not liable for any malfunctions or failures of any telephone network or lines, computer internet system, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to participant’s or any other person’s computer, mobile or any other device and/or its contents related to or resulting from participation or downloading/uploading any materials relating to this challenge, or other technical difficulties or failures or other errors of any kind.  Veg Action reserves the right to terminate or modify the challenge at any time for any reason.    Veg Action also reserves the right to modify this challenge in the event an insufficient number of entries are received and/or an insufficient number of entries meet the minimum judging criteria.

In the event that two similar entries are received, only the entry judged to best meet criteria as set by Veg Action will be included in the final judging.  Entrants agree to indemnify Veg Action and MRSG from and against any and all claims and liabilities arising out of or in connection with this challenge. In the event of any dispute regarding the identity of an entrant who submitted an online entry, the authorized account holder of the email address used for the entry at the time of entry will be deemed the entrant.  “Authorized account holder” is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g. business, educational institute) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address. Any potential winner may be requested to provide Veg Action with proof that such winner is the authorized account holder of the email address associated with the winning entry. Veg Action, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any person tampering with the operation of the website or the entry process.

 Anticipated Number of Entrants: The total number of Challenge entrants is anticipated to be between 20-50.
