Movies that Matter - The Reluctant Radical

  • Norma Richardson Hall 15 Buckland St Woodend, Victoria (map)

THE RELUCTANT RADICAL (2018) isn’t your usual documentary about climate change. This award-winning film asks a big and important question for our times: If a crime is committed in order to prevent a greater crime, is it forgivable? Is it, in fact, necessary?

The film follows activist Ken Ward as he confronts his fears and puts himself in the direct path of the fossil fuel industry to combat climate change. Ken breaks the law as a last resort, to fulfil what he sees as his personal obligation to future generations. In the face of woeful inaction on climate change by governments and business around the world, Ken is one of many now embracing direct action civil disobedience as the most effective political tool to deal with catastrophic circumstances.
