Bike Lanes on Black Forest Drive

A Reason to celebrate …

… and to write one more email.

After many years debate, the deaths of two cyclists and a lot of lobbying from MRSGs transport group, Regional Roads Victoria (formerly VicRoads) has announced revised plans to install bike lanes and pedestrian pathways along Black Forest Drive between Macedon and Woodend.

Previous plans to install bike lanes have stalled due to motorist backlash, as only those against the changes made their voices heard, therefore:

If you support this initiative please let our local MP

Providing safer routes for pedestrians and cyclists in addition to motorists is an important step for sustainability (and saving lifes). In addition the improvements also mean that cars will have safer turning lanes instead of having to do right hand turns from the ‘overtaking’ lane.

When it was last proposed the state government representatives were swamped with objections and those who support sustainable and safe transport were relatively quiet.  Ours is a community where people like to have a say on many things - it is now time for those of us who support sustainable and safer transport to support these initiatives.

Please send a brief email of support to mary-anne.thomas@parliament.vic.gov.au
